Reduced Parking
Please be aware that parking capacity at Great Brook Ski Touring Center has been reduced as a result of a recent redesign of the inner parking lot. In addition, climate warming increasingly prevents the ground from freezing, causing wet and muddy conditions in the outer lot to reduce capacity there. The reduction of parking makes shortages likely and we ask for your patience and understanding if conditions become difficult this winter.
Great Brook’s ski facility needs reliable, non-asphalt parking to be created in the outer lot. We congratulate Rep. Simon Cataldo for securing a $60,000 earmark in the current state budget for this purpose but recognize that significantly more effort will be required in order to ensure adequate parking capacity for cross country skiers and a viable future for the ski concession. We applaud the formation of the Friends of Great Brook Ski Touring Center (fogbski@gmail.com), an organization advocating for improvements and urge all skiers interested in preserving skiing at Great Brook Farm State Park to show their support for this cause.
The 2025-26 ski season is the last of the current 5-year contract between the ski touring center and DCR. While the staff of the ski touring center looks forward to future winters it is unclear whether a new agreement, if offered, would be sustainable for the business. We will provide updated information when it becomes available.
In the mean time, let’s hope for cold temperatures and plenty of snow this winter!
